As I have mentioned before I love taking opportunities to bring things that are happening in the world into the classroom.
This year is a leap year. What a great opportunity to learn about something that doesn't happen again for another 4 years. Teaching about leap years also creates the chance to do some science and talk about how our solar system works and the impact this has on our calendar. In the past I have found a leap year is not something many students know about but are keen to learn.
You could do a one of literacy lesson about what a leap year is. It could also be added to any lessons about the solar system or even into a math lesson about calendars and time.
