Matariki Literacy

There are some great articles in the School and Connected Journals about Matariki. It is easy to base your literacy program, for a few weeks at least, around Matariki when you have quality resources to use.

Matariki is at the end of Term 2 and it could be the perfect opportunity to change up your literacy to help with motivation at the end of the term. This resource has two tasks boards. One is a reading task board based on 8 School Journal and Connected articles with a range of comprehension activities. The second task board has four, literacy tasks which could be used for writing or inquiry/topic learning (or both). They involve your students doing their own research, being creative and sharing what they learnt.

Matariki is a great opportunity to bring what is happening in the world into the classroom. Learning is powerful and engaging when it is relevant. Relevance can be built when learning is based around something that has a lot of potential connections outside the classroom which Matariki definitely does.
