Olympic Games

I absolutely love the Olympic Games and for two weeks (26 July - 11 August) I will be totally engrossed. In the past I have found that when I start talking about the Olympic Games, or Commonwealth Games, at school the majority of students are not watching it but it doesn't take long for them to get into it which creates a real buzz in the classroom. With all the technology available it is great to sit down as a class and watch the best athletes in the world compete. Having a whole class of year 7-8's watching a kiwi going for gold is incredible.

There are so many great things that can be learnt from the Olympic games; hard work pays off, sportsmanship, resilience, teamwork, working towards a goal, opening our students eyes to the possibilities of sport plus learning more about the world we live in. It also gives the opportunity to do some teaching and learning about mapping which is easy to miss of our timetables.

With students engaged in the Olympic Games, they provide an opportunity to use them as the basis for learning across the curriculum. They also can provide students with a lot of choice which helps engagement.

I have created some resources based on teaching I have done during previous Olympic and Commonwealth games. If you like the look of all the resources you can purchase them as a bundle with a 20% discount.
