Quarantine, by Philippa Werry, is a historical novel written from the point of view of a 12 year old boy. It is set in 1936-1937 when the polio epidemic spread through New Zealand. Given what New Zealand, and the world, has been experiencing recently this novel is a very relevant. This novel also gives a glimpse into what life was like for a New Zealand kid living in the mid 1930's.

 

This novel study is designed to take 4-5 weeks to complete.  There is are reading plan which divides the novel into 15 days. Each day has an activity based on what has been read and a word from the text to find the definition for. There are also 3 follow up activities which can be completed once the novel has been read.
